Holy guacamole! It’s September!
How did that happen?
It was a BUSY summer for us at Whippoorwill Creek Farm. We hosted:
A Burgers and S'mores event
Two Sausage-Making Classes
A Memoir Writing Workshop
Two Blogging Classes (one in person and one online)
A Healthy Eating Out of the Garden Class
A Steaks and Sauces Class
And the August Abundance Dinner (shown above)
Plus, we had more than eight groups stay at our Airbnb
We also raised 40 goat kids, went to our first farmer's markets, sold vegetables and melons at pop-up events, and carted tomatoes to restaurants in Des Moines. And now our cows are starting to calve.
So, we haven't gotten around to scheduling classes and events for this fall. Until now...and we would like your feedback! We would love to hear your thoughts about the kinds of classes and activities you would like to do on the farm.
I like to say, it takes a village (really a city) to support a farm—we would not be able to operate if no one bought our goods—and John and I hope that many of you will consider our farm your farm. And, if you live too far away, there are plenty of other farms to choose from—just make sure you do.
The Iowa Writer’s Collaborative is a group of kick-ass writers, founded by Julie Gammack, who also just so happens to have created the Okoboji Writing Retreat. The retreat is what I call “Writers Camp” held at the beautiful Lakeside Labs. If you have never been, you are missing out! Only 17 more days until we gather again.
Whew! I know farming is a full-time job, especially the way you and John do it. To host so many other wonderful events is ...astounding! Thanks for being an inspiration to us.
Oh, and the calf should be named Elsie -- every farm needs at least one cow named Elsie.
Hi Beth -- No kidding!
