I have to admit it. I avoid politics at all costs. And if I am to be completely honest, I’ve actually stopped reading the news altogether, an interesting state of affairs for a journalist. But serving as a Poll Worker may be the ideal place to spend Election Day.
Beth - you provided hope and action in this piece. Both are so precious these days. I recently spoke to someone going to work the polls who had such hatred in their heart. (Maybe from consuming too much news.) It used to be such a joyful and promising experience of seeing the friendly faces of volunteers from our community coming out for what they knew was a privilege and honor. It was a community activity and had a special buzz. This reminded me of those times and with your help, it may just return.
Thank you for volunteering to work the polls! My thoughts and feelings are parallel with yours. Service to humanity is truly the best work of life and when greed and power are absentee great things will happen.
Thanks for the piece and for volunteering at the polls. Imagine- a day without talking about politics during election season. That itself is reason to volunteer!
