Beth, I am originally from Bussey and now live in Knoxville, both Marion County towns just north of you. Hurray for a new slant to Monroe County news.

The paper and its readers are lucky to have you writing for them, Beth. A well-written story is important no matter where it runs.

I live in Monroe County, and I am so glad to see the change in the stories that are now being picked up by the Albia newspaper.

My first thought is Rachelle Chase. She lives in Ottumwa (how she got there is an interesting story). She has done extensive research on Buxton, a mining town in Monroe County that had a population of 5,000-9,000 people from 1900 to 1920. She documented her findings in 2 books. A cemetery, a warehouse that is almost on the ground, and some old foundations are all that is left of Buxton.

Ah Rachelle is amazing! And a very good friend too. Perhaps I can do something about Buxton someday, but Rachelle is not in Monroe County. Let me know if you have other ideas - my email is bethaudio@gmail.com
