Fall is rolling down a very steep slope towards winter here at Whippoorwill Creek Farm and we have (largely) gotten out in front of the change in weather.
We are full of envy that you have your wood up for the season. It’s a goal we have had at Rolling Acres but never achieved in forty years. Maybe in our retirement. Ha! Loved your dancing - we will be watching this video over and over to master some of those steps to add to our routine. Thank you.
Reading your column was a multi-level learning experience. I never knew how to smoothly dance wearing farm boots out in the barn area. I did not know the names of goats. I learned how Dutch Elms can have multiple uses --even when ailing with disease. (Tho, also learned that a neighbor cut down their Dutch Elm for their front porch,). And very warm writing, to boot.
Thank you for sharing this lovely column. I am delighted you found and recognized joy in chopping wood (now carry water?). Preparing for winter is such a profound ritual. And a cat is a must!
Great Zydeco two-step!
